Plano Wisdom: It’s a Good Day to Work

It could be 38 degrees with a light rain and gusty wind and Coach Woods would say, “It’s a good day to work.” Or 102 degrees with no clouds and no breeze.

TrackYou may have failed a test, been dumped by a girlfriend, or come down with a cold and Coach Woods would say, “It’s a good day to work.”

Every day Coach Woods would say, “It’s a good day to work” and some days I would strongly object, within the quietness of my own heart of course. On some days it was clearly not a good day to work, not a good day to be outside running plays or hitting tackling dummies or learning a new scheme. It might have been a good day to be inside by the fire under a blanket. It might have been a good day to be cooling off at the lake. But I was certain some days are definitely not good days to work on football.

Of course, in spite of my silent protests, Coach Woods was right. Today is a good day to work. Today is the only day you can work.

Tomorrow never comes.

Tomorrow today will be yesterday and tomorrow will be today. Tomorrow never comes.

Today is the only day …

  • To tell your children you love them
  • To slow down
  • To bless a neighbor
  • To encourage a friend
  • To have that conversation
  • To listen to God

It’s true, a day may come that is more comfortable than today, a day that is more convenient, a day you feel better, a day when you would do a better job. Or it may not. You do not have unlimited todays. One day will be your last today. Spend today preparing for that day. Today is a good day to work.
